About/FAQ

Unfortunately, I can’t reveal that much about myself for professional reasons. I will give you some information that may help people to understand where I am coming from.

This page contains a few very brief points to supplement the short profile that you can see to the right of this text. Mostly they are in response to questions I sometimes get.

Some personal details:

  • Mid-20s
  • White
  • Based in Sydney
  • Private-school educated
  • Double-degree at university (science/law)

Common topics that I write about:

This blog is quite all over the place to some extent, but there are some common themes.

  • Ideologies:
    • Democracy and the rule of law
    • Press freedom and human rights
    • Discrimination (mostly sexual or racial)
    • Judaism and Jewish identity
    • Islamism
  • Politics:
    • The internal politics of Israel and Australia
    • Middle East geopolitics
    • African geopolitics
    • Copyright/internet piracy
  • Pop culture:
    • Media commentary/analysis
    • Music
    • Fashion
    • Technology
    • Books and literature

My beliefs:

I hate typecasting myself, but I will say the following:

I try very hard to keep an open mind and I do actually change my position sometimes, however I will argue until I am proven wrong. I have a huge pet hate for the tendency people have to stick to their beliefs and never question them – I believe that this does more damage to humanity than anything else.

Religiously, I am a relatively non-practising Mazorti Jew, but I am very strongly Jewish culturally and I am a committed Zionist. If you believe that Zionism is racist, you don’t understand what Zionism really is.

Politically, I am generally libertarian, which means that I think that government should stay out of our lives as much as possible as it is inherently corrupt/inefficient and it has a tendency to be quite evil. I do believe that government is very important for law enforcement and national security. I am also a monarchist.

I strongly believe in human rights and am against discrimination of any kind. I believe in democracy and free speech. I also believe in personal responsibility and accountability and I do not believe in rewarding laziness or failure.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact me – see the details on the right of the page.

How can you be a ‘zionist’ and a ‘libertarian’ at the same time, i thought the two were not right for each other.

Sure, if you’re talking absolute anarcho-libertarianism in which States cannot exist at all, but I’m not that extreme. When I said “broadly libertarian”, I meant that I lean that way, not that I accept it as an absolute doctrine from which I cannot deviate.

Does Zionism hold up the idea that the Jews are God’s chosen people which has similaritites whith the NAZI concept that the Aryans are the Master Race?

    • #4 by MK on September 5, 2012 - 8:19 am

The idea of the chosen people has absolutely no similarity whatsoever to Nazi ideology and your comment tells me that you are:

      a) A racist.
      b) An idiot.
      c) Completely ignorant of Jewish theology.

I find your blog fascinating; your writing is excellent and your arguments are coherent and logical.

I too am an anonymous professional for (partially) similar reasons to yours (ie environment hostile to differences of opinion and certain forms of public expression). Interestingly I too am in Sydney.

I think we agree and disagree on various points, however I’m excited to see thoughtful blogging out there in Australia (as opposed to the likes of Andrew Bolt, Germaine Greer and other mental “commentators”).

Also, yay for analytical, informed points of view!

Thanks, I appreciate the feedback! And thanks for reading.

I’ll definitely have a look at your blog when I find the time.

My blog is a rant blog. So quite a lot of it is less well written and less awesome than my usual thought process ;). I’ll try to comment intelligently though!
